Bird Island has been named 7th Best
Eco Lodge in the world to Visit in 2007
Bird Island’s commitment to conservation and eco-tourism has been
recognized once again this year with the fantastic achievement of being
named as the 7th best destination in the world to visit in
2007 for 'true' eco-tourism. (BBC Wildlife Magazine, December 2006) We
are very proud to have been listed and always appreciate it when the
hard work of many committed individuals who have worked on the island
over the years is acknowledged in such a positive way.

Roby Bresson and the busy Hawksbill Nesting
Season
It has been an incredibly busy time for Roby despite the hotel being
closed for the first three weeks of the month for maintenance. All of a
sudden we hit a peak in the Hawksbill nesting season and Roby was having
to patrol the island up to six times a day. On more than one occasion we
would be checking for tags on one turtle as the other was emerging just
50 yards down the beach. This month we recorded a total of 72 turtles
emerging on the island.

The most incredible sight however was to see two turtles
nesting literally next to each other in front of chalet 14
one morning. Also with more time on our hands over
the closure period we were able to make sure that Dylan, our 17 month
old son, could experience his first turtle nesting experience. He was
absolutely fascinated to watch the eggs fall into the chamber and it was
incredible to watch him as he waited patiently and listened to
everything that Roby was telling him. Now that's education!
