A New Year…

It feels like we just sent Christmas Greetings your way and now Easter is just around the corner. Where does the time go? We're already into the third month of the year!

2016 was a bumper year for the Sooty Tern Colony on Bird Island and we're hoping that this year will be just as successful. The sea turtles also had a good breeding season with higher numbers of nests recorded than in the previous year.

We'll be continuing with our conservation work in 2017, pushing forward with our projects and supporting research visits. The work has already started with our new fishing policy in place which announces the end to fishing by boat around the island and promotes shore fishing as a sustainable recreational activity. This is probably not what the blue-water fishing enthusiast wants to hear but Bird Island is moving forward more than ever in protecting its natural heritage.

On a lighter note, this month we launched the Bird Island Photography Competition! It's a great way for our guests to show off their artistic side whilst expressing their love for the island. Keep reading to find out more.
