Dream. Plan. Travel (Sustainably)

It’s been tough. Being stuck at home isn’t easy, especially if you love to travel. You’ve had time to dream and make plans. Now it’s time to escape to that place you’ve been longing for. It’s time to get up and on with life. It’s time to travel…Just do it safely (and sustainably) We’ll be waiting for you here on Bird Island, Seychelles!

Well that’s the idea anyway. We all know it’s not as easy as it used to be, but it is possible. Another thing that’s possible, is becoming a more sustainable traveller. One of the most obvious ways of doing this is by flying less, but for those who love to discover new destinations this is easier said than done, especially now that we’re all longing to get on a plane after being stuck at home for so long. If you’re planning on flying to a far-off destination, here are…

5 ways to travel responsibly

1. Choose destinations and lodgings committed to environmental sustainability.

2. Pack light. Less luggage means lighter planes and less fuel used (and associated emissions).

3. Refuse single-use plastics and make sure you’ve brought at least one or two reusable bags and a reusable water bottle.

4. Spend  on small local businesses and support the local community.

5. Conserve local water and energy resources. (Switch off that air con if you’re going to be out of your room or keep it off altogether)

These are just a few brief suggestions. As you do your own research, we’re sure you’ll find that there’s so more much you can do to make a difference.

What should you bring along with you to Bird Island? Find out here.

Global Impact

We’ve mentioned sustainable travel as one of the ways of reducing our environmental impact. Many of us try to reduce our negative impact in our daily lives- we shop more wisely, we avoid single-use plastics, we reuse items, we plant trees, we participate in clean-up activities. We want to drive positive change through these actions, but how can this be achieved? That’s where Global Impact comes in!

“In 2015, the United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are to be achieved by 2030. The problem is, many people are still unaware of how to help and how much their actions are actually contributing to these goals because there is no way to track everyone’s actions.” – Global Impact

Global Impact is a social platform whose aim is to provide you with the tools to make sustainable choices, measure your impact and encourage others to take up the cause. Click below and learn how you can become an Impact Citizen today!
