Travelling to Bird Island

How do I get to Bird Island?
There is a scheduled flight between Bird Island and the main island of Mahé on Friday afternoons. Your seat on this flight is booked and confirmed along with your room reservation.

How long is the flight?
The flight is approximately 30 minutes.

What time does the flight from Mahé to Bird Island depart?
Our flight departs from Mahé at 14:00, with check-in at 13:00 at the Mahé Domestic Terminal. You will reach Bird Island at approximately 14:30. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated to you accordingly.

What time does the flight from Bird Island to Mahé depart?
The flight from Bird Island Island departs at 14:45 and reaches Mahé at approximately 15:15.

What is the luggage restriction for these flights?
15 kg per person.

Can I purchase excess luggage?
Unfortunately, this is not possible for our flights. However, excess baggage may be accepted on the same flight depending on space availability or forwarded on next available flight (for stays longer than 1 week). 

Is there a luggage storage facility at the Mahé Airport?
It may be possible for excess luggage to be stored at the airport police station. Kindly enquire at time of booking. Bags must be clearly tagged and locked.

Must I carry soft luggage only?
Due to the aircraft’s size, luggage space is limited. Thus, soft luggage is recommended as this allows greater flexibility to accommodate everyone’s luggage.

Who operates the flights between Mahé and Bird Island?
Our flights are mainly operated by Air Seychelles, where a twin otter aircraft is used; but at times Zil Air undertakes our flights, using a Vulcan Air or Tecnam Traveller aircraft.

Can we organise a private flight to Bird Island?
Yes, private charter flights can be organised through our reservations department. Kindly contact reservations@birdislandseychelles.com for further information.

Accommodation

What are the room categories?
The self-catering villas comprise of 6 two-bedroom villas and 1 three-bedroom villa. All the rooms are open plan, with a large double bed, a corner lounge (with 2 sofa beds that convert to 2 single beds for kids), an adjoining shower and a WC. All the rooms feature a varendah overlooking the island’s natural gardens. Each villas also has it’s very own kitchen-bar-lounge providing a great indoor-outdoor living space. Facilities & Services

Is there WIFI on Bird Island?
There is free WiFi in the lobby area and in all the villas.

Is there mobile phone network?
There is no mobile phone network on the island; however, calls may be made via our landline, at an additional charge.

Is babysitting available?
Babysitting can be arranged at an additional charge. Please enquire with the Villa Manager. Kindly note that this is subject to availability.

Is there a shop on the island?
The Island Shop is open throughout the day, providing you with the necessities you will need for your stay. For further information Click Here.

What if I have any allergies?
If you have any allergies please inform the reservations team upon booking so that the hotel is advised accordingly. *Please note that the restaurant does not cater for food allergies*.

Activities

Should we pre-book any activities?
In fairness to all guests, activities cannot be pre-booked. We work on a first come first serve basis.

Health & Safety

Are there dangerous animals on Bird Island?
There are no dangerous animals on the Island.

What happens if there is a medical emergency?
We have trained First Aid staff on the island to assist guests; and we are able to arrange a helicopter evacuation should this be necessary.

How do I get to the Seychelles?
Via Air Seychelles, our national carrier, which operates scheduled flights from destinations such as Johannesburg, Mumbai, Tel Aviv and Mauritius into Mahé International Airport.

International carriers include Turkish Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Condor, Etihad, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Air Austral and Aeroflot. There are also many Tour Operators and Travel Agents worldwide that you can book flights through.

How long does it take to clear immigration and customs?
Depending on the number of international arrivals, this can take up to an hour. To facilitate this process, Fast Track services are provided by Air Seychelles. Click Here for further information. 

How far is the International Terminal from the Domestic Terminal?
It is only about a 3 minute walk from the International Terminal to the Domestic Terminal. The terminals are adjacent to one another.
